THE WORD

Psalms 23:2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. (NLT)

Last week we looked at the lord being our shepherd that fills us all in all.

Today we would look at another aspect of psalm 23.

"The lord let's me rest..." would be our centre of focus today... By the way, have you noticed that in the whole of psalm 23 it was the lord doing everything?

Back to the descant. So the lord let's me rest. The King James version says "he makes me lie down..."

God has finished all the works in Christ and he has brought us into his rest so that from his rest we can function. See this:

Hebrews 4:1-4 God's promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn't share the faith of those who listened to God. For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, "In my anger I took an oath: 'They will never enter my place of rest," (NLT)

When God created Adam all Adam needed to survive was already in place—the oxygen, the gold, silver, food everything he needed both spiritually and physically.
But something happened, Adam didn't mix what he heard from God with faith and so he fell from the rest God planned for him. Hence he began to struggle. Gen3 shows us a picture of what life is outside the rest God planned for us in Christ.

Hebrews 3:19 So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.

What stops anyone from entering the rest of God is unbelief. If you don't believe in Jesus you can't enter his rest... The gospel preached to us was preached to them also but they didn't mix theirs with faith.

What are we resting from? Is it physical work?  No!
We are resting in what Jesus has done for us on the cross. He died for our sins and paid the whole price, fulfilled the law, destroyed death, and glorified us... He did it all!  We function from his rest.

The Sabbath day is not one designated for worship but a type of the rest that believers are meant to enjoy. You would notice that Jesus said Sabbath was made for man. You'll also notice that Adam didn't have a specific day for worship that he called Sabbath.
We all know that the laws and prophet are a representation of what Jesus would do, not the main thing but a shadow of it.

See what Jesus said: Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Rest is in Christ!  Believe in him today and rest in his finished works.

"sister/brother, you want to work?  Sorry,  IT IS FINISHED! "
