FIND THE CONNECTION
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
As I watched my course mate in the medical school lament over the resent list that came out, (she was supposed to repeat). She kept Saying "I give up, I am not
intelligent, I don't think I am cut out for optometry"... Then came my thoughts again:
Many of us seem to struggle with why we are so unproductive, why we seem unsuccessful, not motivated, low confidence level, and very little success; whereas on the contrary, WE ARE DESIGNED TO SUCCEED!
When God created you, he enforced the ability to succeed in you when he said "be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it and have dominion!" Now most young people wonder why we do not materialize this potential. To answer this questions I would like to pose some questions too, READY?
1. why do people we call chronic late comers, tend to be punctual in some certain activities?
2. Why are those people we call unmotivated very active and resourceful in some other things (whether good or bad).
Well my friend will always say "THIS IS NOT LAZINESS BUT IT IS SELECTIVE PARTICIPATION".
THE ANSWER TO BOTH QUESTIONS ARE 1. INTEREST 2. PRIORITY
Now the big question, how do I succeed in whatever I do?
This is one of the numerous questions ravaging the heart of many young people. Since we are created in the image and likeness of God, then if we would succeed, we have to do it how God did it, and the last time I checked, God has never failed in anything... NOT ONCE!
IN THE BEGINNING!
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now look at that! It must have been a tedious task! How do I know; well at least it took God six days to do this work and he rested on the seventh day (Gen 2:1-3) and considering the fact that when the scriptures started recounting day and night, "THE SUN AND THE MOON" had not been created, so this could be one of those thousand years that is like a day to God and one day like a thousand year 2Peter 3:8. Simply put - ETERNITY.
So what could have kept God working tirelessly like that on a particular project? Whatever made him stay on that till he finished and also succeeded in it, can make you too)
HE FOUND THE CONNECTION :
In all God did, he found the connection between form and essence. What do this two words means? We will use some illustration.
FORM AND ESSENCE...
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God FORMED man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the BREATH OF LIFE; and man became a living being.
When you look at a burning Flame, the light you see and the heat you feel, are just the form, an expression or manifestation of the core essence which in this case are the gases that combust with oxygen - the essence!
The essence, is the basic fabric of existence of a thing, the inner core, the axis around which every other thing rotates, but the form is an external manifestation of the essence.
We see from Gen 2:7 Man is an essence (SPIRIT) that has his expression through his form (BODY) when the essence leaves, the form drops dead! And there is obviously a connection - THE SOUL.
Coming to the lord God too, there is a form and an essence!
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the FORM of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the FORM of a bondservant, [and] coming in the LIKENESS of men. And being found in APPEARANCE as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to [the point of] death, even the death of the cross.
When Jesus came to the earth, he was in his very essence God, but didn't have the form of God! In fact the same God who gave the sermon on the mountain (Matthew 5) is the same God that gave the 10 commandments on mount Sinai (exodus 20). But on one hand in his fist appearance in Exodus 20, he was very scary, but in his second appearance in Matthew 5, he was not: what was the difference? He dropped the form! The thunder, lightening, glory, fire etc, but at the very center of who he is, he remains the same! (LOVE) 1JOHN 4:8 "...FOR GOD IS LOVE... "
This is what Rabbi Levi Brackman and Sam Jagger calls the inner will and the outer will (Jewish wisdom for Business success, pp 27 - 47).
The inner will, correlates with the ESSENCE
The outer will, correlates with the FORM.
SO WHAT HAS THIS TO DO WITH MY BEING SUCCESSFUL? EVERYTHING!
God in creating the universe, did this to manifest his glory, manifold wisdom and awesome power (Revelations 4:11, Job 38:4-7). But this is just the outer will. God in his coming to the world and dying, did this to express his wisdom and his mighty power to save (1Corinthians 2:7-8), but this also is the outer will, but basically, the reason why God created the universe and came down to die for man is one integral part of him, which is his true nature, his essence, his inner will - LOVE. Through the ages, God's outer will kept changing from expressing his glory to showing his mighty power, to showing his manifold wisdom, but all he did were motivated by one inner will, which has remained the same... LOVE!
I STILL DON'T GET IT, HOW DOES THIS HELP ME SUCCEED?
Your inner will is who you are, your essence or say your purpose. Whereas your outer will could be your ambition or goal at the moment. In whatever you are doing, if you do not find a connection between that outer will and the inner will, you might not succeed in it. The reason is because when there is no connection between the two, you will not give the project the push it needs. It is important to note that the inner will remains the same, but the outer will changes with times and seasons.
LET'S BRING THIS HOME!
Mr James, has an essence of bringing healing, Pain, turns him on (in the positive to relief it), his pain site is triggered. Whereas his pleasure site is triggered when he Brings healing and see people healthy and happy that is the core of who he is. You can agree with me that there are several ways it can be channelled and I know you are already thinking medicine. But there is also philanthropy, pastoring, guidance and counselling... You name it!
Now let's assume he wants to express this essence through being a medical doctor. At a season in his life, his outer will could be to pass his O level exams and if the connection is there he can push through and pass. Getting into the medical school, the form changes, but the essence remains the same. He would succeed against all odds if the connection is there because the inner will, fuels the outer will.
Many people fail in what they do because they have not found the connection between the form and the essence or probably no connection exists at all, they are just following the crowds or instructions. This failure is not Because they do not have the ability to succeed, but just because they have not found the connection.
And back to my sobbing course mate, this is just what I told her.
